On the show, ACB President Gail Brechting and Keith Kelly are joined by Composer Alex Shapiro and Conductor Kaitlin Bove.

Hosts

Keith Kelly -Keith, a former Irish military musician and conductor, is a worldwide music creator/thinker. He’s the founder of the Irish Symphonic Wind Orchestra, Chair of Bands of Ireland and, due to the COVID19 lockdowns and the need to connect, Keith started The Global Bandroom online community creating opportunities for ensembles and musicians to connect, learn, and perform together across borders. Keith is proud to serve as co-chair of the ACB International Committee.

Gail Brechting

Gail Brecting - Gail is President of the Association of Concert Bands and is the conductor and music director of the West Michigan Concert Winds. She has recently been named the Director of the Adult Music Program with Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. Among her other affiliations are: National Band Association, College Band Directors Association, an Emeritus member of Michigan School Band & Orchestra Association, the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles, P.E.O. and the Women Band Directors Association.

Alex Shapiro - Composer Alex Shapiro is known for her genre-blind acoustic and electroacoustic pieces, including a significant catalog of electroacoustic wind band works for musicians at all performance levels. Published by her company Activist Music LLC, Alex’s music is heard daily in concerts and broadcasts across the U.S. and internationally, and can be found on over thirty commercially released recordings.

Shapiro is noted for her seamless melding of live and recorded sounds, and for her innovative uses of multimedia in performance and music education. A widely published author on topics ranging from technology, copyright, diversity and inclusion, music education, and the music business, Alex advocates tirelessly for other artists. She is the Symphonic and Concert writer member of the Board of Directors of ASCAP, and serves on the Board of Directors of the ASCAP Foundation and The Aaron Copland Fund for Music. Kaitlin Bove - Kaitlin Bove is Director of Instrumental Ensembles and Assistant Professor of Music at Pierce College in Puyallup, Washington where she teaches courses in music theory and world music in addition to band, orchestra, and jazz ensembles. Kaitlin holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Wind Conducting from University of Kentucky where she was a conducting student of Cody Birdwell and a teaching assistant with the wind band program.

Kaitlin is founder of the And We Were Heard initiative which matches underrepresented composers of wind band and orchestra literature with volunteer ensembles in order to generate quality recordings of the music of diverse compositional voices.
