Honor FlightsThe Honor Flight Network (www.honorflight.org) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing veterans with honor and closure. Many Association of Concert Bands member bands have already supported this effort by playing at airports for departing or arriving flights. Members of the City of Fairfax Band, an ACB member band in Virginia, have recently been going to Reagan National Airport to play for arriving Honor Flights, a program designed to transport America’s Veterans to Washington, DC to visit those memorials dedicated to honor the service and sacrifices of themselves and their friends. Bands around the country may participate in this program. One of our members authored an article “Honoring Our Veterans, the Honor Flight Network” which appeared in the June 2017 issue of the ACB Journal and can be viewed in its entirety linked below. The article is a primer on the experience, and is a very helpful starting place for bands interested in participating. Honoring our Veterans The Honor Flight Network By Geofrey Sefens [June 2017] (875 KB) HONOR FLIGHT ARRANGEMENTS BY JERRY BRUBAKERTo further assist with this mission, Jerry Brubaker, ACB Past President, has arranged medium easy arrangements of the five major service songs in stand-alone versions. These are tailor made with a short intro, once through the song and a simple ending. As a way to encourage ACB member bands to play Honor Flight departures or arrivals in nearby cities Jerry has made these arrangements available free of charge for ACB Member Bands that will take on this mission. These arrangements can be found in the Members Area of the ACB website. Quote from Jerry Brubaker “I hope you all saw the article in the June 2017 issue of the Journal about bands supporting the Honor Flight program. This is a program that is near and dear to my heart. I have done arrangements of the five major service songs in an easy to put together format and will supply free of charge to bands that wish to play for a departing or arriving flight.” ABOUT HONOR FLIGHT NETWORKOur Mission: To transport America’s Veterans to Washington, DC to visit those memorials dedicated to honor the service and sacrifices of themselves and their friends.
